I realized that in order to effectively destroy some of those "hoops"... I must appear to be more of a conformist in order to gain the trust and respect of the "hoop protectors"...

I then realized that some of those very "hoops" that I was either forced to... or just forced myself to jump through... actually taught me lessons and built my character...

I believe that we do individually create many of our own "hoops"... so yes... therefore... collectively... we've created them all... some are necessary and some are not...

As far as I'm concerned the key is this... don't jump just because everyone else does... don't jump just because someone tells you to... question the purpose of every "hoop" and weigh the benefit of every "jump" and only jump through the ones that will allow you to destroy two on the other side ;-)R.G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13021735503171370255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-41800315601674890212008-06-30T08:25:00.000-07:002008-06-30T08:25:00.000-07:00I wish there was more dialog about this. I think that almost all of human suffering- violence, murder, rape, slavery, drugs, alcohol, embezzlement, dishonesty, etc can be traced back to The Hoops. This Brazen Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02924652859389870978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-71216141115864664472008-06-29T19:17:00.000-07:002008-06-29T19:17:00.000-07:00Interesting - hoops. I do believe some folks set hoops up for themselves, and that some are actually good - the ones that make us strive for better. And then there are the ones we've placed in schools for both students and teachers.
Girl - you must have been tired after this one...!Cassyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01773053134937944674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-55537266114769681592008-06-29T13:52:00.000-07:002008-06-29T13:52:00.000-07:00No, thank you for sharing. Its good to know others out there are thinking against the grain.

But back to your story. It is harder to revolt against yourself. To admit you are wrong and that your whole way of life isn't the best way. Its a self perpetuating problem that is hard to change but it takes only one person, one leader to open people's eyes. I believe it to better and therefore somewhat easier to change your way of life based on what you see rather than trying to change while fighting the fear of an oppressing government. At least the people have that going for them.TheFLyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17093581451029518159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-35030045065043973442008-06-29T10:12:00.000-07:002008-06-29T10:12:00.000-07:00thought provoking- thank you. It's harder for me ...thought provoking- thank you. It's harder for me to see, because, by definition, I am a very good hoop jumper as I did well at school and am pursuing a tertiary education.

Another side to your metaphor- what are we teaching children if all we teach them is to jump hoops? Then we get a generation of circus performers, not thinkers. We need thinkers. (not my own original thought, someone else's. :) )titaniumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03842438619823330586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-27198243592027883002008-06-29T09:29:00.000-07:002008-06-29T09:29:00.000-07:00I also realize many of these ideas are half-baked ...I also realize many of these ideas are half-baked so to speak. I realized when writing ...Thank you for reading it. I realized when writing this that few would take the time.

There will not be any other antagonist. I happen to believe one of the reasons progress is so slow on our planet- is that people believe there is an antagonist- and there's not.

Governments are made of people, police forces, law institutions, schools, hospitals, regulatory agencies are all made of people. People just like you and I.

So who shall we revolt against now that we know we are the problem??This Brazen Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02924652859389870978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141091301619818082.post-17699304834106217942008-06-28T17:40:00.000-07:002008-06-28T17:40:00.000-07:00So I read your whole chapter about the hoop people...So I read your whole chapter about the hoop people. Now for some of my insight. I get the metaphorical meaning of the hoops relating to our society and if one can simplify everyday routine with jumping through hoops then one can simplify the reason why these hoops exist in the first place. Usually its because these types of things exist as a type of power control over people. But in this hoop story I didn't feel like anyone was controlling the hoop people by making these hoops exist other than the people themselves. There was no evil government controlling the people from behind a dark curtain. Instead it was more like the people were perpetuating their own disllusioned state of affairs.

Perhaps, you will dive into it deeper in a later chapter but it seems like there is no antagonist other than the people themselves and if that is the message then I can answer some of the questions you proposed at the end. Is there hope? There is always hope and in this case, there is definitely a brighter future. The potential for a revolution always exists and no people are doomed when the hope for change still exists. Change happens whether we like it or not.

Nice story, one would say that the idealism is too trivialized but it made me think about certain things in a simplified manner. Sometimes the correct answer is the simplest answer, right. Buzz Buzz.TheFLyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17093581451029518159noreply@blogger.com
